Medicare coverage for expanded telehealth services is set to expire at the end of this month.
There are more than 760,000 people enrolled in Medicare in Connecticut, and many of them could be at risk of losing access to telehealth.
Connecticut made telehealth permanent last year.
“We had so many clinicians and the patients who came out and spoke in favor of it. They felt it has been a lifeline for them. It has helped their care. And the clinicians also felt that they have been able to provide a higher level of coverage,” Sen. Saud Anwar (D – South Windsor), said.
We’re told Medicare telehealth coverage was extended to Sept. 30 back in March.
If it doesn’t happen again, the virtual care would be restricted only to rural areas and certain services.
“It helps with better patient outcomes because people are going to the doctors and seeing them, and hopefully, you know, catching diseases and anything before it happens,” Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria (R – Beacon Falls) said.
